School Support Program

The School Support Program gives hearing impaired children extra support to continue their studies in mainstream primary and high schools. This extra support allows the child to take a full and active part in school life.

The School Support Program is currently offered at seven schools in the Perth metropolitan area:

Telethon Speech & Hearing teachers and teach assistants are based in each school and oral programs are run in partnership with these schools. A Teacher of the Deaf (and teacher assistant) works closely with the classroom teacher to support the hearing impaired child wherever necessary.

In secondary schools, an oral interpreter / note-taker works directly with the hearing impaired child(ren). Individual assistance may include extra language, speech, auditory and academic support tailored to individual needs.
