What is NDIS?

Telethon Speech & Hearing is registered to provide services under both NDIS schemes, in all of the WA trial sites.

The NDIS provides individualised support for eligible people with permanent and significant disability, their families and their carers. The aim is to provide eligible people with relevant information and referrals, individualised plans and to encourage greater inclusion and access to services. People with a disability will be able to make their own decisions under the NDIS in regards to what support they require and who will provide that support. Rather than fund a particular service provider, NDIS allocates funding to the individual. Funding is not means tested and eligibility is based on the needs of the individual. For more information on eligibility, see the NDIS Access Checklist.

The NDIS funds reasonable and necessary support services to individuals to help them to reach their goals and to support their growth in being independent. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) makes decisions based on the National Disability Insurance Scheme Act 2013 (NDIS Act) and in order for a support service to be funded, it must follow certain guidelines as related to the individuals disability and be helpful and beneficial to the individual.
