Telethon Speech & Hearing is pleased to share the July 2021 edition of the First Voice quarterly newsletter ‘Our Voices’.
This edition focusses on Advocacy and includes a lead article on First Voice advocacy in key policy and funding areas over the past two decades as well some excellent examples from member centres such as services to remote Indigenous Australians, capital funding for new facilities for the rapidly growing population in South Western Sydney, and raising awareness of deafness and the urgent need for listening and spoken language programs in South Africa.
Telethon Speech & Hearing is a member of First Voice, an alliance which provides a global voice for like-minded organisations providing world-class listening and spoken language early intervention services to children with a hearing loss.
All of us in First Voice have experienced first-hand the extraordinary, life-changing outcomes of children participating in our evidence-based, multidisciplinary, early intervention spoken language programs; and parents’ pride and joy at their child’s achievements. This is what energises us (1) to continue to press for the global expansion of programs where they are limited or don’t currently exist; and (2) to make evidence-based submissions to address gaps and deficiencies in established systems such as those in Australia and New Zealand.
